“When I was 5 years old, I was sent to boarding school in South Lebanon because my family was based in Africa. I was estranged, so I felt the need to fill this emotional gap by drawing. I started to paint and never stopped since, even when I got reunited with my parents in Africa one year later. They used to buy me pens and I would draw everywhere, even on the walls of our shop in Gabon.

When I was 14, we came back to Lebanon, but because of the war, I had to go live with my brother in Paris. Things were not easy, we struggled financially speaking.

What kept me going was the intuition I had that one day I will be an artist. After many challenges, I studied at l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris with the Master, the sculptor Charles Auffret.

It took me a while to be able to live out of my passion. Today, I feel grateful for all the challenges I faced, they made me the man I am : all my paintings revolve around the themes of estrangement and travel.”

David Daoud will showcase his exhibition “Paysages intérieurs” at Galerie Cheriff Tabet at D Beirut, Burj Hammoud, from Jan 15 to Feb 15.
