“I think about Lebanon everyday. There’s a part of me that’s still living there, even though it’s already been 12 years since I moved to France. It’s hard, very hard to be far right now.

We want to stay alert on the latest news; we watch the situation worsen through our screens, and feel like we need to do something, but can’t. Besides, we’re getting our news from the internet or from our parents, so we don’t really know what’s happening on-site, and that makes us anxious.

Is it worse ? Is it a bit better ? We don’t know.

When I first came to France, I used to go back to Lebanon every two months, and my goal was to return and settle down there one day. Today, this dream is slowly fading away. It’s been eight months since I last travelled there. I watch my niece grow up and make her first steps via Skype. I really want to come back, but I’m worried about getting my mom sick because of COVID19.

What do I want to tell the Lebanese in Lebanon ? We all know the cause of our problems…and the solution ! Let’s unite ! There are electricity cuts in every single household, the prices are soaring for everyone, and not because you’re Christian, Muslim or Druze, but because “they” want to steal from us.

Let’s finish what we started in October, TOGETHER!”

After this interview, Paul Sawan, 33, bought a ticket to Lebanon on a whim! 🙂
