Happy Valentine’s Day!

This year, we decided to bring you a Lebanese-British love story that beats the odds. Enjoy and spread the love!

Caroline: “We met at uni in 1976. Jihad came to study in England and we instantly had a very strong connection, something hard to describe which made me very happy! He was sooo romantic, he used to write me letters even though he would see me the next day! And even better, he was an excellent disco dancer 🙂

Our relationship grew serious, and he invited me to Lebanon to meet his family. Unfortunately, his parents had different hopes and aspirations for him, they wanted him to marry someone from the same background.

I went back to England, heartbroken. I went through a very difficult phase, I used to cry every day and night. Then I took refuge in work, I had a beautiful and very diverse career, I got married, and divorced.

After my divorce, I tried getting in touch with Jihad again, to no avail. When I called his Lebanese number, someone answered me: “Khalas, Khalas,” so I thought he was dead! Until that famous phone call in 2013.”

Jihad: “I always felt that Caroline was “The One.” So four years after my divorce, I got her number from a friend of a friend, and I called her.

It was as if our relationship had been on hold for 40 years! We were still super close, and our bond was strong. She came to see me in Lebanon, I introduced her a second time to my family, and I asked for her hand. She said yes! She said she didn’t want to lose me a second time.

We got married on the 31st of August 2013. If I had one piece of advice for the younger generation, it would be: life is short, so don’t waste it!”

And you? Do you have a Lebanese love story to share? Leave your comments! 🙂
