We know that skiing these days might be out of the equation for many of us, but we figured that some cultural knowledge is always good 🙂 , so we decided to repost this tidbit of info.

Did you know that in Lebanon, skiing dates back to the beginning of the 20th century? To 1913 more precisely, when Ramez Ghazzaoui discovered the joys of skiing in Switzerland and shared his newfound passion with his friends back home.

In 1935, the French started the first Lebanese skiing school in the Cedars. But it isn’t until 1953 that the first lift got installed there. Meanwhile, competitions were happening on a regular basis, and in 1947 Lebanon took part to the Games in Chamonix, then to the Saint Moritz Olympic Games the year after.

In 1951 the federation got created.
In the 60s and 70s, investment was poured into new stations. Today there are 6 stations in the country hosting roughly 35,000 skiers.
