“5 years ago, I needed some change in my life.
A friend who lived in Mozambique offered me a job there. I took his offer, as I needed some time far away to find myself. I thought that I would make a lot of money and be happy… But a year later, I still didn’t have any answers to my questions.
I came back to Lebanon in 2015, when the trash crisis happened. It infuriated me to see the country in such a bad state.
I wanted to recycle, but I had to take my own car to drop my trash in a recycling center. It was a pain! Some NGOs were working on the problem, but I felt it was still not enough.
I was in an Uber when the solution occurred to me: Live Love Recycle, an app which allows drivers to geo-localize you and pick up your trash in less than 2 hours, then drop it in a recycling center.
We got some funds from a German NGO and we started working in 2017.
When I witnessed how Lebanese were grateful for the service, and how our drivers were proud to contribute to our mission, I finally felt useful and right where I needed to be, close to my family and in my country.”
Georges Bitar, 31, founded Live Love Recycle in 2015. He is currently in the middle of a crowdfunding campaign to sustain its activities.
