Ghada Feghali strongly believes in the secular public mission of public schools. She taught biology at IC for 43 years.

“Just in front of IC, there was a public school hidden behind a metal gate. One day, in 2000, out of curiosity, I pushed the door, and asked the Principal what was the success rate of her students at the official Brevet Exam. It was 0%. Ours at IC was 100 %. I thought it was unfair. These kids were capable, but unfortunate to be in system which doesn’t help them enough. I asked her if I could help teach the next year. She agreed. With 5 friends, we provided reinforcement classes to 17 kids in grade 9. And all of them got their brevet that year!

“ This is how MMKN (possible in Arabic) started. Today, MMKN provides reinforcement classes to kids all over Lebanon, and employs university students as volunteers.

“Some of these university students were previous kids with us and are more than happy to give back to society! This is how we build a social and responsible citizen.”

Today is International Women’s Day. And tomorrow is Teacher’s Day in Lebanon. So we thought we would celebrate by featuring our favorite teacher! 🙂
